Translations or Changing Words

We’ve put a considerable amount of effort into ensuring Panorama is translatable. This also means you can change any of the words in Panorama to other words even if it’s English to English. For example you might want to change “Projects” to “Cases.”

There are a couple of different ways you can create your own translation for Panorama:

  1. Create your own PO / MO files
  2. Use a translation plugin like Loco Translate or Codestyling Localization

Creating Your Own PO / MO Files

If you’re comfortable working with and uploading files to your server you may want to create your own PO / MO files. You create these files using a separate application like POEdit, upload them to your web host and WordPress will replace the default Panorama words with the ones you’ve supplied.

You can read a detailed tutorial on this process here. Always make sure to keep a backup of your .MO and .PO files so you can restore them after future plugin upgrades.

Using a Translation Plugin

If you’re not comfortable working with and uploading files, you may want to translate Panorama through your WordPress admin. There are two excellent plugins for this, I recommend you try both and select the one that best fits your needs:

  1. Loco Translate
  2. Codestyling Localization

Changing Words with Loco Translate

  1. First, install the plugin from the WordPress repository.
  2. Once installed, you will have an option called “Manage Translations” under the WordPress Tools menu.
  3. Scroll down to “Plugins” and then “Project Panorama” and click on the “New Language” button
  4. Select “English” from the common language dropdown
  5. Search for the word you want to change in the “Filter Translations” box
  6. Enter the new word in the large “English Translation:” textbox
  7. Continue for all words, then hit “Save” when compelted.
